Medical Assistant
Duties and Responsibilities:
Medical assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the officers of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly. The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner’s specialty. Their duties include: answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients’ medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admission, and laboratory services, and handling billing and bookkeeping.
Salary:
The median annual medical assistant salary is $36,844 as of 2016, with a range usually between $33,971-$39,779 not including bonus and benefit information and other factors that impact base pay. However everything varies depending on a number of factors including industry, company size, location, years of experience, and level education.
Education:
According to American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) aspiring medical assistants must graduate from a 2-year associate degree program in medical assistance accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or the Accrediting Bureau of Health.
Demand for this Profession:
Some of the Important qualities that you need as a medical assistant are analytical skills, detail oriented, interpersonal skills, and technical skills.
Reflection:Becoming a medical assistant does sound interesting, hardworking, and helpful, although I don’t think I have the skills to become one. I also don’t think I would like to become one
