Student Success Statement

“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.” This statement was stated by Thomas Carlyle. I agree with this statement because when you don’t have  destination or location on your ship, then you will never go anywhere. You end exactly where you started. Same thing with a goal. If you have no goals in life, you will not go anywhere. You have no idea what you want to do. You don’t have an idea of where you want to go. I think this is what Thomas Carlyle is trying to explain and emphasize. I think everyone should set goals in there life to get where they want to be.

  

Memorial Day Weekend

This memorial day weekend I went to the lake with my family. We had a picnic and played really fun games. I must say there was a plethora amount of people who arrived at the park. I think they came for the same reason we did. To celebrate memorial day. I think we were lucky though because we found a perfect spot with shade and somewhere where there wasn’t a lot of people.  We left early in the morning and didn’t come back until late afternoon. After the picnic at the lake, I went to the mall. I bought new clothes because my brother will be graduating soon and I will be there to watch and we all have to look presentable as possible. After that I went home back with my family. We decided we should buy something to eat because everyone was too tired and no one wanted to cook. So my mom and myself went to go buy some tacos for the family. During the three day weekend I also stayed up until one in the morning to watch movies. One of the days that I was off, I helped my brother assemble a toy. I didn’t have any homework during the three day weekend so that was great because it was time consuming. Overall, this three day weekend was a blast.

    

Forgive

Student Success Statement

“When a deep injury is done us, we never recover until we forgive.” This was stated by Alan Paton. I think that this statement is trying to explain to us that if you ever want to feel good in life you need to forgive. You can’t feel hatred towards others. You can’t hold grudges either. Forgiveness is the cure to all problems. For instance, as we saw in the video during class, one of the ladies mom had said if you don’t forgive you will grow old and bitter. This young lady forgave the man who is the cause of her daughters incident. I agree with Alan Paton. I agree with Alan because if you don’t forgive others, you will not live at peace or comfortable. Neither you are the person you need to forgive. You will both feel wrong about the situation.

Memorial Day

1.What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a holiday in which those who died in active military service are remembered, traditionally observed on the last Monday of May.

2.When is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May annualy. This year it will land on May 29.

3.What are a few ways to show honor and respect on Memorial Day?

• Writing a thank you card/note to send overseas
• Visiting a local veterans cemetery, or war memorial
• Visit a nearby veterans hospital
• Enjoy freedom by spending time with your family

        

5. Originally Memorial Day was known as Decoration Day, meant to honor the Union and the Confederate soldiers who died during the American Civil War. By the 1900s it had became a day to celebrate all American soldiers who died while serving in the military. It wasn’t until 1967, that it was legally named Memorial Day. The true origins of who held the first Memorial Day celebration is a deabted subject. Approximately, 620,000 soldiers on both sides have died during Civil War. The flag is supposed to be flown at half-mast until noon, and then raised to full mast until sunset on Memorial Day.

6. Something I would like to do in respect and honor of Memorial Day, is doing a random act of kindess. I have always wanted to try it out, and what better day than on, Memorial Day.

7. Memorial Day is a day where everyone should be considerate of and be taken seriously. We had brave soldiers who fought for us and we should honor them, even if it is something small such as visiting a hospital. That itself is enough. We should be appreciative of everything. Memorial Day isn’t just a day off of school. We should be showing our respect to them.

Do Right

Student Success Statement

“Dare to do right.” This was stated by Rex D. Pinegar. Rex is trying to emphasize that the only dare you should be attempting are good dares. You should only be doing dares that are beneficial to you. For instance, if you are dared to jump from one cliff to another, you shouldn’t do it. Although if you’re dared to do your homework for three whole weeks straight, you should do it. Attempt dares that will do you good and the people around you. You don’t only have to do good dares, dare people to do these dares also. I agree with Rex D. Pinegar. Everyone has  been dared in their life, why not go for a good dare.

               

Forensic Scientist

Duties and Responsibilities:

Forensic science technicians aid criminal investigations by collecting analyzing evidence. Many technicians specialize  in either crime scene investigations or laboratory analysis.Most forensic science technicians spend time writing reports.  

Salary:

The median annual wage for forensic science technicians is $56,750 as of May 2016. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less.

Education:

Forensic science technicians typically need at least a bachelor’s degree in a natural science, such as chemistry or biology, or in forensic science. Forensic science programs may specialize in a specific area of study, such as toxicology, pathology, or DNA.

Demand for this Profession:

Some important qualities that are needed in order to become a forensic scientist are communication, composure, critical-thinking, detail-oriented, math and science, physical stamina, and problem solving skills.

   

Reflection:

I would love to become a forensic scientist! It is definitely a career that I am open minded about. I have always wanted to become a forensic scientist, but I have also been open minded about other careers I would like to study.

Stand Alone

Student Success Statement

“Dare to stand alone.” This quote was stated by Thomas S. Monson. I think what Thomas is trying to inform us is that we shouldn’t be afraid to stick up for ourselves or be the only one to choose the right. It doesn’t necisarrily mean that we have to isolate ourselves or exclude ourselves from hanging out with friends or family. It just mean that you should know when and when not to be hanging out with certain types of people. For example, if your so called friends ask you to join them to smoke a ciggarette, and everyone you know is tagging along, you shouldn’t be afraid to say what you want. You should be brave and leave. You should have courage to say no and choose the right. It is ok if you’re the only one not smoking. This makes you the bigger person and it says more about you. It shows a lot of character. I agree with Thomas S. Monson because I think everyone should dare to stand alone if that is what it takes to be brave and show courage.

      

Astronomers

Today I chose to research an astronomer’s responsibilities and what they do. I thought it would be interesting to know more specific information about astronomers. Astronomers study the ways in which various forms of matter and energy interact. Theoretical, astronomers study the nature of time or the origin of the universe. Astronomers spend much of their time working in offices, but they also conduct research in laboratories and observatories. Most astronomers work full time. Astronomers study planets, stars, galaxies, and other celestial bodies. They use ground-based equipment, such as radio and optical telescopes, and space-based equipment, such as the Hubble Space Telescope. Some astronomers focus their research on objects in our solar system, such as the sun or planets. Others study distant stars, galaxies, and phenomena such as neutron stars and black holes, and some monitor space debris that could interfere with satellite operations. Astronomer’s usually need  a Ph.D in physics, astronomy, or a related field is needed for jobs in research and academia. Some of the important qualities that are needed is analytical skills, communication, concentration, critical thinking, curiosity, interpersonal, math, problem-solving, and self-discipline skills. Some positions with the federal government, such as those involving nuclear energy and other sensitive research areas. May require appicants to be U.S citizens and hold a security clearance. The median annual wage for astronomers is $115,870 as of May, 2016.

     

Student Success Statement

“If I’ve got correct goals , and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.” This was stated by Dan Dierdorf. I think Dan is trying to explain to us that if you have set yourself into a positive direction, then it is fine if you know the rest of your path or not because you will soon be headed into the correct path because you’re doing what is right and good for yourself. No matter what you will suceed. For instance, if you earn good grades in school, but you are not sure on what you want to study in the future for your career, it is ok because along the way you will know. So I agree with Dan Dierdorf.  If you set your goals and standards high and you meet them, everything will fall into place.

Lawyer

Duties and Responsibilities:

A lawyer should strive to attain the highest level of skill, to improve the law and the legal profession, and to exemplify the legal profession’s ideal of pubilc service. A lawyers responsibilities as a representative of clients, an officer of the legal system, and a public citizen are usually harmonious.

Salary:

The median annual wage for lawyers was $118,160 in May 2016. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $56,910, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $208,000.

Education:

Becoming a lawyer usually take 7 years of full time study after high-school, 4 years of undergraduate study, followed by 3 years of law school. Most states and jurisdictions require lawyers to complete a juris doctor degree from a law school.

Demand for this Profession:

Some important qualities that are needed in order to become a lawyer are having analytical skills, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, research skills, speaking skills, and writing skills.

Reflection:

Becoming a lawyer is definitely a career I would like to have in the future. It has always been a dream of mine. I am very open-minded about this position and I would love to become one because I want to be fair and do what it is right and resolve problems. I would like to study criminal justice.

Phillip Riggs’ Four Success Tips

1. Work Hard

Reflection: I think that these 4 success tips are something everyone should live by. They are inspirational, and I think they would be great for every situation you come upon. I can encorporate these tips in a daily schedule in school. When I become an adult and have a career, these success tips will be benificial for me. For example, in a job I should always keep in mind to work hard and try my best. The second tip is benificial because I shouldn’t get a career I know will bore me or not be to my best interest. Not chasing after money teaches me that I shouldn’t do things for money. And doing good things to others will bring good to me and positivity.

Physical Therapist

Duties and Responsibilities:

Physical therapists, sometimes called PTs, help injured or ill people improve their movement and manage their pain. These therapists are often an important part of rehabilitation, treatment, and prevention of patients with chronic conditions, illnesses, or injuries.

Salary:

The median annual wage for physical therapists was $85,400 in May 2016. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $58,190, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $122,130.

Educaton:

Physical therapists need a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. All states require physical therapists to be licensed.

Demand for this Profession:

Having compassion, detail oriented, dexterity, interpersonal skills, physical stamina, and resourcefulnes are very important qualities.

Reflection:

I like helping others although I don’t think this is the profession for me.

The Right Thing

Student Success Statement

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.” This quote was stated by one of our former presidents Theodore Roosevelt. I agree with Theodore. This is a good quote to live by because it will always remind you to choose the right at all times. For instance, if you were invited to attend a party, and you knew there was going to be alcohal and drugs and you accepted the invitation, that is choosing the wrong. Although, if you were to choose the right you would say no because it is the right thing to do.

Nothing

Student Success Statement

“Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong.” This was quoted by Wilford Woodruff. I personally agree with Wilford. I agree because you can’t have success in life or at all when you do what is wrong. For instance, in order to get a job, your friend has to get fired. So because you want the job so bad, your friend gets fired. Then you get the job. That isn’t fair to your friend. Your job should be earned because you worked hared for it. It isn’t right to gain what you want by do something wrong to another person.

Pathologist

Duties and Responsibilities:

Medical pathologist are physicians who specialize in diagnosing and studying diseases using laboratory methods. As a pathologist, you might examine and diagnose body fluids, such as blood and urine, or tissues from biopsies and Pap smears, to diagnose disease. You may possibly perform autopsies to determine a cause of death.

Salary:

The average Pathologist salary is $195,586.

Education:

In order to become a pathologist, you must have done 4 years in college, to get a bachelor’s degree, 4 years of medical school, to get the doctor of medicine degree, 4 or 5 years of residency to become eligible to take the Board exams in pathology.  

Demand for this Profession:

You’ll need to have excellent communication skills, the ability to work under pressure and make quick, accurate decisions, good problem solving skills, recognize visual patterns, etc. to become a pathologist.

Reflection:

I dont think that I would be a good pathologist. I dont think I have the skills needed to become one.

Do the Right Thing at the Right Time

“It’s A GREAT MOMENT when someone has character to step up and do the right thing at the right time.” This was quoted by the head softball coach Western Oregon. This statement means that it makes people feel good when someone sticks up for someone or does what is right. It shows others that anyone can do it. I personally agree with this statement. I think everyone should do what is right at all times.

Word of Honor

“ I have been asked what I mean by ‘word of honor.’ I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls-walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground-there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle ? No, never! I’d die first. “ This is qoute by Karl G. Maeser. In this statement, I think Karl is trying to explain that if he were ever in the toughest situation, there is a chance or possibility that he can some way be free. Although he does emphasize that if one in command or in control of the situation tells him not to try and escape, he will stick to his word and not eescape. All because he is a man of his word. I think he uses a great example to make the readers really illustrate the picture in their minds. I agree with this quote and I think everyone should keep their ‘word of honor.’ Doing right things entitles you to your ‘word of honor.’
